Matthew Broderick returns to Broadway in ‘The Philanthropist’

Matthew Broderick returns to Broadway this spring in a Roundabout Theater Company revival of Christopher Hampton’s “The Philanthropist.”

David Grindley is set to direct, according to Variety.

A veteran of the Great White Way, Matthew Broderick’s theater forays have been huge box office hits. 

Starring as one of the leads in “The Producers” in 2001 – Broderick starred with Nathan Lane, and they appeared together again in a 2005 revival of “The Odd Couple” that did very well in ticket sales.

“Philanthropist,” will see Broderick as a university professor who exists outside of the real world and is insulated from the news of the day.

Variety reports that “Philanthropist” will preview April 10 ahead of an April 26 opening at the American Airlines Theater.
