Man arrested in death of Korn fan at Family Values Concert in Atlanta

Michael Scott Axley, 24, was arrested Mondayin connection with the death of Andy Richardson, 30, – who died Tuesday, Aug. 1, following an attack at a Family Values Tour concert that was headlined by the metal band Korn. The concert was being held at the HiFi Buys Amphitheater in Atlanta.

The attack happened while the Deftones were on the stage, but it is not clear what caused Richardson to be attacked by two men. Reports have said that Richardson asked two mean to be aware of his pregnant girlfriend, but new reports from Richardson’s friends have stated the fight could have been caused over a baseball cap.

Axley has been accused of punching Richardson during the fight which caused him to fall on the concrete striking his head. Richardson was declared brain-dead on Tuesday and taken off of life support.

Reports from friends of Richardson state Axley and others crashed into Richardson and his friends earlier in the concert which resulted in a small fight between the two. Axley reportedly returned later in the event, grabbed Richardson’s hat and punched him in the face as Richardson tried to retrieve it.

Korn issued a statement of their condolences to Richardson’s family on Wednesday, Aug. 2, and asked fans that were at the event to help police find the people responsible for the death. Richardson’s mother had also made a public plea for fans to help the police find the person responsible.

“All the bands on the Family Values Tour offer their sincerest condolences and prayers to the family of 30-year-old Andy Richardson,” Korn said in the statement. “Korn are appalled at the actions of these men and are imploring anyone who witnessed this senseless act or has any information about the attack to please immediately come forward by contacting local authorities.”

It is not known what official charges Axley will face when the case for to the district attorney’s office, or how he will plea.
