Christo to suspend artwork over the Arkansas River
Denver, Colorado (dpa) - Artist Christo plans to suspend over 9 kilometres of silvery, luminous fabric panels along a 68-kilometre stretch above the Arkansas River. The local authorities have given permission for the temporary work of art titled 'Over The River,' according to Colorado Tourism. (www.overtheriverinfo.com)
New Wellness centre planned for island of Mallorca
Palma, Spain (dpa) - Two German and Austrian investors are planning the construction of a new wellness complex in Playa de Palma on the island of Mallorca. The new centre will be 20,000 square metres in size and cost in the region of 40 million euros (63 million dollars), according to a spokesperson for the Spanish tourist ministry in Berlin. The new addition, which is still only at the planning stage, is intended to help the Balearic island become an all-year-round tourism destination.
Festival of cultures in Hawaii
Honolulu, Hawaii (dpa) - The 18th annual Honolulu Festival takes place between March 2 and 4 in Hawaii at five locations in and around Waikiki. The festival celebrates the cultural and ethnic togetherness of the Asian-Pacific Rim, and includes art exhibitions, cultural events, a parade along Waikiki Beach and, for the first time, a large fireworks display. Spring musical festival in Monaco
Monaco (dpa) - Monaco is the location for a spring arts and musical festival featuring the London Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and the Dresden State Orchestra of Saxony. The 28th Printemps des Arts festival runs from March 16 to April 8 and has the accordion as its central theme this year, according to the Monaco tourist office. Spend the night on a former aircraft carrier in Chinese port city
Beijing (dpa) - Visitors to China can now spend the night on a former Soviet aircraft carrier that has been converted into a luxury hotel. The vessel is anchored in the northern Chinese port city of Tanjin, situated about 120 kilometres from the capital Beijing. The Kiev, which is 273 metres long and 53 metres wide, was used as part of a military theme park in Tianjin Province. It now accommodates 148 hotel suites.
New steel cable slide in Salzburg province
Salzburg, Austria (dpa) - One of the longest and fastest steel cable slides has opened up in the Austrian province of Salzburg. The Flying Fox XXL is 1,600 metres long and can reach speeds of up to 130 km/h as it carries its passengers up to 140 metres above the ground into the valley below. (www.flying-fox-xxl.at/en)
