Family days at the porcelain factory in Meissen
Meissen, Germany (dpa) - The Meissen porcelain factory in Germany hosts family days on February 11 and 12 when visitors can enjoy a tour of the workshops where some of the company's most famous creations were made. 80,000 pounds of oysters go on sale in Charleston
Charleston, South Carolina (dpa) - Oysters are the main attraction in Charleston, South Carolina, on January 29 when 80,000 pounds of the molluscs are sold, opened and eaten at the Low Country Oyster Festival. The event at the Boone Hall Plantation is the world's largest oyster festival where oysters arrive in two huge trucks on early Sunday morning and are then sold by the bucketload. Mountaineering and giant slaloms in Italy
Tarvis, Italy (dpa) - Winter sport lovers will be drawn to the Italian resort of Tarvis for a weekend full of competitions in March. Lussarissimo 2012 runs from March 16 to 18 and includes three main events over the weekend. A nighttime mountaineering competition to the pilgrim church on Monte Lussari takes place on Friday and is followed on Saturday by a sprint in the same discipline. The longest parallel giant slalom race in the world occurs on Sunday on the World Cup piste in Travis, according to the local tourist office. Hansa Convention in Lueneburg
Lueneburg, Germany (dpa) - Lueneburg is the location for this year's International Hansa Convention, which runs from June 28 to July 1. The former German salt town held the first Hansa Convention 600 years ago and this summer's event includes an extensive cultural programme, according to the Lower Saxony tourist office. The entire historic old town will be used as an exhibition space while there will also be a Hansa market around the town hall and a handicraft market in the west of the old town. Winter festival in Copenhagen
Copenhagen (dpa) - Copenhagen is the location for a new winter festival for the entire month of February when the Danish capital is packed with over 100 music, food, fashion, architecture, art and design events, according to VisitDenmark. Visitors to the Wondercool festival can enjoy rock and jazz bands, learn about the last decade of Danish fashion at the Dansk Design Centre and watch art performances in public areas throughout the city.
