TAP Portugal introduces check-in via mobile phone
Lisbon (dpa) - Passengers of Portuguese airline TAP Portugal may now check in using their mobile phones. The boarding pass is sent via the internet to the cellphone, TAP said, after setting up the portal mobile.flytap.com. Check-in for flights starts 24 hours and continues up to 90 minutes before departure. Passengers may then proceed directly to the boarding gates with their carry-on luggage. (www.flytap.com)
Christmas, Danish-style: exhibition in Arhus
Hamburg (dpa) - The Bible or fried meat? - The focus of various eras of Danish Christmas celebrations are now featured in the open-air museum Den Gamle By in the city of Arhus. The exhibition presents Christmas customs from the year 1600 through 1975, the tourism authority Visitdenmark reports. The museum has built various historical settings of Danish-style Christmas. Altogether, more than 30 exhibits - along with historical market stands and shops - will assure a hearty Christmas spirit. (www.dengleby.dk)
Monaco Cathedral's restored organ set to play again
Monaco (dpa) - Restoration work on the old organ of Monaco Cathedral was completed in time for the principality of Monaco's national holiday on November 19. Belgian organ builders spent the past two years restoring the instrument built in 1976. An official opening concert on the 35-ton instrument is set for the third Sunday of Advent, on December 11. Qatar Airways sets up services to Uganda
Frankfurt (dpa) - Qatar Airways is now flying daily to Uganda. An Airbus A320 service, launched in early November, connects the airline's Doha hub with Entebbe, the former capital of the East African country. Entebbe is located 35 kilometres from the capital Kampala. With the new service, Qatar Airways now flies to 16 destinations in Africa. Flights depart at 8 a.m. local time on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and at 1:15 p.m. on the other three days of the week.
Christmas market planned on historical site in Bath
Bath, England (dpa) - The city of Bath in south-western England is to offer its annual Christmas market in a historical setting. Located between Bath Abbey and the ancient Roman baths, some 125 market merchants will be displaying their hand-made crafts, gift items and Christmas specialities in chalet-style booths. The Bath Christmas Market is open now and runs until December 11, assuring a Christmas spirit in the historical city which has been declared a World Cultural Heritage sity by UNESCO. Lucerne to touch and feel - city tours for the visually-impaired
Lucerne (dpa) - The city of Lucerne is now presenting itself as a place to get a feel of - literally. The city in central Switzerland is offering guided tours to the blind and visually-impaired, the Lucerne tourism office reports. On such a tour, guests can touch and feel Gothic windows, the creases and scars on the beams of the Spreuer Bridge, old fountains and cobblestone alleys. The route also goes alongside the Reuss River. (www.luzern.com)
