Film festival in Houston
Houston, Texas (dpa) - The third Cinema Arts Festival takes place in Houston from November 9 to 13 and involves a collaboration among many of the Texan city's film and arts institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts and the Menil Collection. Visitors will have 40 films to choose from and the event will also be attended by numerous directors, including Patricio Guzman, Zhu Wen and Mahmoud Kaabour. (www.cinemaartsociety.org)
Russian Christmas market in Copenhagen
Copenhagen (dpa) - Visitors to Copenhagen can enjoy the unusual experience of a Russian Christmas market in the city's famous Tivoli leisure park from November 11 until December 30. The attraction will offer Russian cuisine and music as well as a reconstruction of Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow's Red Square and a miniature Siberian railway ride. Rare stamps on show at philatelic fair in Monaco
Monaco (dpa) - Philatelists can make a trip to their very own Eldorado when the annual Monacophil stamp fair takes place at three locations in Monaco. An exhibition of 100 Philatelic World Rarities takes place at the Stamps and Coins Museum where rarities from the collections of Prince Albert II of Monaco and British Queen Elizabeth II are on display. New sightseeing bus tour in Quito
Quito (dpa) - Tourists can see the sights of Quito by bus from the middle of November when a new city sightseeing tour through Ecuador's capital comes into operation. Sights covered by the tour include Quito's botanic gardens and the Way of the Seven Crosses. Tickets are valid for a day and passengers can hop on and off the bus where and when they please. Go turtle watching on the Australian coast
Bundaberg, Australia (dpa) - The chances of spotting giant turtles close up in Queensland are quite high between November and March as this is when the reptiles come on land to lay their eggs. The Mon Repos region near the coastal town of Bundaberg is a particularly good spot for seeing giant turtles as the area is a popular nesting site for the creatures, according the Australian province's tourist office. Tickets for the nightly guided tours run by trained rangers cost around 10 dollars. (www.queensland.com/turtles)
New museum in Budapest displaying gold and silver exhibits
Budapest (dpa) - A new museum showcasing art from South-east Asia has opened in Budapest. The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum has a collection of 1,000 exhibition pieces, including gold and silver artifacts dating back to prehistoric times. There are also articles from various Asian peoples and tribes as well as Hindu and Buddhist religious objects. The entry price for adults is in the region of 15 dollars while children over the age of six pay half that amount. (www.thegoldmuseum.eu)
Art supermarket opens in Berlin
Berlin (dpa) - A new supermarket geared towards art lovers and selling artworks instead of food produce opens its doors in Berlin next month. Between November 4 and January 28, 2012, visitors to the supermarket situated in 'The Q' in Berlin's central Mitte district will be able to view over 5,000 works by 87 different artists. All paintings cost between 50 and 299 euro (69 to 415 dollars). (www.kunstsupermarkt.de)
