New cable-car for Radstadt-Altenmarkt ski resort
Radstadt, Austria (dpa) - The Radstadt-Altenmarkt ski resort in the Austrian province of Salzburg will have a new cable-car for the upcoming winter season. The new car is capable of carrying 10 people from the bottom of Altenmarkt to the top at the Kemahdhoehe in just 7 minutes. From Kemahdhoehe, skiers and snowboarders can enjoy 17 kilometres of piste while luge fans have access to a six-kilometre-long toboggan run. A free shuttle bus is also available to take visitors to other skiing resorts in the surrounding area. (www.radstadt.com)
Mallorca looking to attract tourists to Primera Liga matches
Palma de Mallorca, Spain (dpa) - Spanish Primera liga side Mallorca is looking to attract more tourists to its football matches. The club has agreed a deal with German tour operator Tui whereby certain packages will also include watching a game at Mallorca's Iberostar stadium. It is estimated that around 70 per cent of holidaymakers in Mallorca are football fans and there is plenty of capacity as even the club's match against champions Barcelona isn't sold out.
Twenty new restaurants in Stockholm
Stockholm (dpa) - Stockholm is hoping to attract more tourists with the news that 20 new restaurants have opened in the Swedish capital. Kottbaren, which roughly translates as 'flesh bar,' is a mix between a bar and a local store where guests can not only dine but also buy sausages and other meat products for consumption at home. Other companies have followed the same concept, including Ekstedt, the club house and Beijing8. (www.visitstockholm.com)
Talk civil rights issues with the followers of Martin Luther King Jr
Albany, Georgia (dpa) - Martin Luther King Jr used to preach at the Old Mount Zion church in Albany, where from November 12-18 former colleagues and followers of the civil rights activist and Nobel Prize winner will talk about the civil rights movement. Entrance to all events is free and following the lectures, visitors get the opportunity to talk to the activists in person, according to the tourism office for the US state of Georgia. Denmark introduces fishing licences by phone
Copenhagen (dpa) - Visitors to Denmark can now buy a fishing licence by phone as well as online at www.m.fisketegn.dk. It is also possible to check with the help of GPS coordinates whether fishing is permitted in a particular area. A one-year licence costs 140 krone (26 dollars) while a day licence will set you back 35 krone.
New luxury hotels in Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca, Spain (dpa) - The number of luxury hotel rooms to choose from in Mallorca will increase significantly over the next two years with the news that three international hotel groups want to set up on the Spanish holiday island.
The Dubai-based Jumeirah group plans to open a five-star hotel in Port de Soller, on the northern coast of Mallorca in March of next year, while Spanish chain Kette Melia intends building a resort in Magaluf, in the western bay of Palma from six existing buildings. Hyatt is also reportedly interested in building a luxury resort by 2014 in Canyamel based on a traditional Mallorcan village.
