New panorama brings Berlin's Pergamon Museum to life
Berlin (dpa) - The Pergamon Museum in Berlin is offering visitors a fascinating new insight into the ancient Greek metropolis Pergamon, located in what is today Turkey. The 360-degree circular photo-panorama by German artist Yadegar Asisi shows a picture of everyday life in the city in 129 AD. Simulated sunrises and sunsets over the buildings, sculptures, library and philosophers' school all add to the effect, as does specially-composed background music. Beatlemania shows offbeat album covers
Hamburg (dpa) - Hamburg's Beatles Museum Beatlemania is staging an exhibition of album covers, with 400 pictorial variations on the theme of an LP by German-Iranian artist Amos. The show entitled 'One Album - Hundreds of Artworks' includes some special creations, among them a cover stamped from stainless steel, and a sequin-studded portrait of the musicians. Chocolate lovers flock to Stockholm
Stockholm (dpa) - Stockholm's Nordic Museum is staging a three-day chocolate festival from October 14-16. The event, in its tenth year, features 50 chocolate brands and pastries from some of Sweden's top chefs. A 'cakemaker of the year' competition, cooking courses, and a dance show sponsored by Embassy of Ecuador round of the mix of sweets-themed events. (www.nordiskamuseet.se)
New theatre for Polish resort town
Szczawinica, Poland (dpa) - The Polish spa town of Szczawnica, south of Kracow, has gained a new theatre, nearly 50 years after the last one burned down in 1962. The new venue is architecturally identical to the original building, but the interior has been revamped to incorporate state-of-the art technology. The theatre seats 400 guests and boasts a special basement jazz space. (www.szczawnica.pl)
Caesar's builds word's tallest Ferris wheel in Vegas
Las Vegas (dpa) - Building on what its organizers say will be the world's largest Ferris wheel has gotten underway in Las Vegas. The High Roller will soar 167 metres into the sky, making it 2 metres taller than the world's tallest wheel, the Singapore Flyer. Its 28 transparent, spherical cabins will each seat 40, a Caesars Entertainment press release said. The High Roller, set to open in 2013, is a signature piece of company's 550-million-dollar 'Linq' makeover project.
