Guernsey gourmet festival begins
St Peter Port (dpa) - Fine dining at the right price can be found on the Channel island of Guernsey in October when the gourmet Tennerfest gets into full swing. Over 160 restaurants are taking part, offering great menus from 1 October to 2 November priced from 10 pounds (16 dollars) each. (www.tennerfest.com)
Singapore to open museum of Southeast Asian maritime trade
Singapore (dpa) - A new museum dedicated to maritime trade history in the south-east Asian region is to open in Singapore on 15 October. The museum building, which is located in the Resorts World Sentosa complex, is made of glass and steel and is in the shape of an up-turned ship's hull. Among the attractions on display are full-size replicas of Arabian sailing vessels from the 9th century and a ship that the Chinese explorer Zheng He used. The museum also has a 360 degree multimedia theatre with seat for 150 guests. An aquarium is due to be added at a later date.
Ghoulish walk through Houston
Houston (dpa) - To mark upcoming Halloween the city of Houston is staging a Ghost Walk for visitors from 30 October to 6 November. Appropriately dressed tour guides will lead their guests through Houston's historic downtown district. The tour includes 'spooky urban legends and scary true tales of deceased Houstonians,' according to Houston's tourist office. (www.discoverhoustontours.com)
Norway launches new tourist routes
Oslo (dpa) - Norway has launched a marketing drive for its National Tourist Routes programme consisting of 18 roads that pass through the country's stunning scenery. So far six roads have been given full status with the rest due to be incorporated by 2020. Norway's tourist board has more information online at ww.turistveg.no/en
