Linz celebrates composer Anton Bruckner

Linz, Austria (dpa) - The life and works of composer Anton Bruckner will be celebrated with a three-week festival in the Austrian city of Linz this autumn. The festivities run from September 11 until October 11 in the capital of Upper Austria and include chamber music, recitals and a series of concerts. The local tourist office has put together a special package offering tourists accommodation for two nights, concert tickets, a tour of Bruckner's house and a guided tour of the city following in the footsteps of the composer. Phuket serves up vegetarian cuisine

Bangkok (dpa) - Visitors to Thailand for the Phuket Vegetarian Festival have to follow a strict regime that involves wearing white clothing and doing without meat, alcohol and nicotine. The religious event runs from September 27 until October 5 on the island resort of Phuket for the purpose of cleansing and renewing the body and soul, according to the Bangkok tourist office. Expressionist exhibition in Villa Manin

Passariano, Italy (dpa) - The Villa Manin located in the northern Italian town of Passariano is the venue for a major exhibition of expressionism with a strong emphasis on German art. The exhibition runs from September 24 and contains around 100 paintings and documents from the Die Bruecke expressionist movement. Paintings by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Pechstein and Emil Nolde are among the artworks on show, which can be viewed in the majestic 17th centre villa until March 4, 2012.

Kitesurfing world championships in Mauritius

Le Morne, Mauritius (dpa) - Strong winds, dream beaches and turquoise coloured waters are among the attractions for the world's best kitesurfers when they congregate in Mauritius this autumn. The island in the Indian Ocean hosts the first stop of the Kite Surf Pro Wave Tour between September 23 and October 2. The first round of the world championship takes place on the Le Morne peninsula in the south-west of the island. (www.kspworldtour.com)
