Indeed, the major factors in making a good impression are clear skin and a symmetrically balanced face, according to German doctor and beauty expert Ulrich Renz. Women come off best with a childlike look, including big eyes and a compact jaw. For their part, men should have a strong jawline. Tastes overlap by about 50 per cent. 'As a rule of thumb, we can say that half of our opinions about beauty are subjective. The rest is objective,' said Renz. Most people might initially notice physical beauty, but they soon focus on inner beauty. 'We have a kind of reflex in our head that balances out the good and the beautiful.'
