I love the late actress Eartha Kitt, and my father adored her and always championed her when we hashed over favorite villains the 1960s 'Batman' TV series. He would say that Eartha Kitt was the only Catwoman for him. My dad recently passed, and this particular development in the world of the late Eartha Kitt would have thoroughly delighted him.
Kitt Shapiro, the only child of Eartha Kitt, introduces a lifestyle brand of coasters, plates, wall art, mugs, pillows, throws, and paperweights featuring the witticisms and images of her iconic late mother.
"Since she died, I have come across hundreds of what my mother liked to call Kittisms™, written on everything from lined notebook paper and hotel stationery, to napkins and post it notes. Whatever was close at hand that she could write on. I’m not sure if she really came up with any of these sayings herself, or if she decided after hearing them somewhere, that they could have been something she would or did say. But, for those of you who spent any time with my mother, you know it really doesn’t matter, because once she spoke them, they were hers.." Shapiro writes on her website. "Every day, tell the ones you love, how you feel."
Upon her mother’s passing from colon cancer in 2008, Shapiro discovered hundreds of whimsical thoughts scribbled on papers that they had referred to as “Kitt-isms.” Eartha said to her daughter, “When I’m gone, do not throw anything away – use it.”
So with part of the proceeds benefiting The Colon Cancer Alliance, Shapiro has preserved her mother’s legacy by weaving “Kitt-isms” such as “What I do today is how I am interpreted tomorrow,” and “When life becomes confused, step aside and think” into this unique and collectible line of Simply Eartha home goods.
You can find tumbled coasters, gorgeous crystal paperweights, pillows, and many other unique gifts.
More reasons to adore Eartha: Simply Eartha also follows the entertainment icon’s strong feelings that Americans should be making products in America. These are all created in the Southeast, primarily Alabama.
