Ramallah now a night-spot
Ramallah, West Bank (dpa) - The best known cities in the Middle East for night-life are Tel Aviv and Beirut. But according to a recent article in Germany's Spiegel magazine, Ramallah in the Palestinian territories also has something to offer, even if it is rather limited in scope. Most of the night owls there are members of non-governmental organisations in the daytime. 'An army of short-term contractors head out in the evenings to enjoy the nightlife which most Palestinians have no access to. Everything is much more exciting knowing the Middle East conflict is right on your doorstep.' Among the most hip places to visit is Andarin Club.
Berlin night-club moves to Mexico temporarily
Tulum, Mexico (dpa) - One of the hippest beach resorts in the world, the Papaya Playa Project in Tulum in Mexico, is running until the beginning of May. The pop-up resort is the idea of Claus Sendlinger. He invited the organisers behind one of Berlin's best night spots, Kater Holzig, to come to Mexico and help with the project in Tulum. According to one of Germany's leading Sunday papers, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, 'There are a group of visionaries in Tulum who play techno music in the evening that feels more metropolitan that the mega-parties in nearby Play del Carmen.'
Britain's Uniform Dating website takes off
London (dpa) - If you find uniforms sexy, then the British website 'Uniformdating' is for you. The website is conducting a big advertising campaign on British television at the moment. It promises to hook people up with police officers, firefighters, soldiers, air force personnel, nurses and flight attendants. Its slogan is 'Online Dating for anyone who works in uniform or fancies those who do!'
French designers come up with a warm idea for bookworms
Paris (dpa) - If you like reading in bed but suffer from cold shoulders and arms in the winter, then a new design from France might be the solution. Nathalie Mauger and Claire Gueneau have created a blanket with sleeves that is due to go on the market shortly. Their design is called Couettabra, and according to the creators, it means you no longer need to heat your bedroom. The Couettabra is also useful for video game players who need lots of arm room.
