The latest internet fad: 'Horsemaning'
Berlin (dpa) - A new prank is making the rounds on the internet called Horsemaning. It involves posing two people for a photograph so that one appears to be headless. The fad is named after the Headless Horseman character in the Washington Irvine short story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It involves positioning one person to appear as if they have no head while the second person deftly hides their body, leaving their head exposed to the camera.
According to Spiegel Online, the internet edition of the German weekly magazine Spiegel, Horsemaning is an invention of media professionals. Most internet users react negatively to attempts to artificially push a fad online but Horsemaning appears to be generating a strong resonance.
Fashion guru warns against 1920s retro look
Berlin (dpa) - Tiny hats, sequin dresses, feather earrings and chin-length hair are hallmarks of the 1920s look. 'The 1920s are making a comeback on the catwalks at the moment,' writes Tillman Pruefer, style columnist at Germany's Zeit Magazin. But Pruefer is somewhat critical of the look: 'Young women of the 1920s freed themselves from the horror of the First World War and confined gender roles (.) The 1920s were an excessive party on the eve of the world's downfall in which the celebration ended.' At the time the global economy was in crisis and democracy had malfunctioned. 'We can only hope that the 1920s do not return even if we all end up looking a little more boring.'
Pop-up restaurant to open in Frankfurt
Frankfurt (dpa) - Temporary restaurants and bars, known as pop-up locals, are becoming a major trend in cities around the world. Germany's business capital, Frankfurt, is now getting in on the act. From September 8 to October 15 a pop-up restaurant will open in the 24th and 25th floors of a high-rise building. The Tree House project will be based in one of the Nextowers and coincides with the International Motor Show and the Frankfurt Book Fair. Three-star Michelin cook Juan Amador and Matthias Schmidt will be responsible for the menu. The team behind the concept spent 45 days running the Pret-a-Diner pop-up restaurant in Berlin last winter where they served meals to over 10,000 guests. They repeated the formula during the Berlin Fashion week and prepared meals for 5,000 people.
