The 'Ugly Betty' star has problems with her skin and likes to ensure it is well camouflaged, especially since the invention of high-definition TV - which shows blemishes and lines on TV stars' skin.
She said: "If there's a day where my skin is not looking great, I have to have more coverage. With high-definition TV, there is no such thing as too much makeup!"
The 46-year-old actress - who plays ice queen Wilhelmina Slater in the hit US show - is self-conscious about her skin, and admired other celebrities who don't have the problem.
She added to 'The Basics of Beauty' DVD: "Kim Basinger has always got incredible, luminous skin. And Julianne Moore seems like she's got very natural, gorgeous skin."
Vanessa isn't the only celebrity to have hang-ups about her body.
Supermodel Iman - who is married to David Bowie - admits she's very insecure about her legs.
She said: "I don't like my legs! It's why I wear pants most of the time."
