Product spotlight: Gaiam Yoga clothes beat high priced competitors

To know me is to know that I love wearing gym clothes… all the time!

Seriously, I wear them to work out with friends, to the store while I’m shopping for other gym clothes and of course to the gym.  So I obviously have a closet full of yoga pants and tank tops.  I have tried them all, from the very pricey (hello Lululemon) to the Target cheap-y specials, so I do consider myself the workout wear expert.

Working for Monsters and Critics comes with one or two perks that includes coming home and finding boxes of goodies for review at my front door.  I was so excited when I saw the box with "Gaiam" written on the top of it.

You see, Gaiam has turned out to be one of my all time favorite companies because they make very fashionable and affordable yoga wear and incredibly cool home products like sheets, towels, furniture and decorative items, air quality gizmos… you name it, they’ve got it.  They even feature posture and fitness experts like Jill Miller on their blogs.

They also have what I call the “crunchy” factor, which means that Gaiam is a product line that “values the environment, a sustainable economy, healthy lifestyles… etc.”  You know, it’s the "feel good" product that makes things that make you feel good… got it?  Good!

Anyway, a few weeks ago I ordered some Gaiam work-out gear, specifically, the Adjustable Strap Tank and the Folded Waist Capris to go with my plethora of already mentioned work-out gear in my closet, and I kid you not, in a sea of yoga gear, these are two incredibly unique items that I have not seen before.

First off, Gaiam yoga wear is made from a blend of recycled polyester and spandex, so not only are you being fashionable, but you are being environmentally conscious when using their products.  Nod to Al Gore: check

Now to the important stuff… fashion!

The Adjustable Strap Tank is snug fitting with thick adjustable straps which is great if you have a real “rack”.  So many tanks are made for wispy young things with button boobies.  You know who I’m talking about… the chicks who are featured wearing angel wings on the runway or in a Vampire drama or are on a dating reality show.   Gaiam designs for real women with real boobs.  Yay Gaiam!   The tank is also long waisted if you prefer that style, I’m good either way.

Next, the Folded Waist Capris are form fitting yoga pants with a little extra room around the knees, I don’t know if this was for comfort or for style, but it does looks really neat.  Plus, the fold over the waist area also helps to keep things from pooching out.  (FYI, I’m a size 6 so I got the medium and it ran a little big on me so order accordingly).

Both items are made with a semi-thick material that is still surprisingly light and ultra comfortable for either in the gym or snuggling on the couch with a good book.  (come on, who are we kidding, I wear it while watching crappy TV munching on Pringles!)

What can I say... I love me some Gaiam!
