Stone Craft brings silkscreened prints to jeans, Orly Dahan talks denim trend

One of the most impressive names in California denim is designer Orly Dahan, whose new company Stone Craft is filling retailers with some unusual and colorful denim fashion.

One of the most impressive names in California denim is designer Orly Dahan, whose new company Stone Craft is filling retailers with some unusual and colorful denim fashion.

Dahan was the creator of ’80s surfwear label Surf Fetish, skate brand Tag Rag and Tag Jeans and wants to reestablish California as denim ground zero.

Dahan infuses his new designs with silkscreen prints.

His new Stone Craft launched at the ENK trade show in Las Vegas and at Coterie in New York.

The collection of brightly colored, silkscreened denim jeans and mixed-media printed shirts feature men’s work shirts with paisley pockets, men's boardshorts made with denim waistbands, and women’s pink-and-white striped skinny jeans.

Dahan manufactures in the USA, Vernon, Calif., and sells it through the Sparkling or Flat showroom in downtown Los Angeles.

Monsters and Critics had a few questions for Orly Dahan regarding his new line.

Monsters and Critics: Orly, how would you describe your clothing company? The design ethos?

Orly:  Stone Craft is a premium denim collection that brings back the true California lifestyle with several extensions of the line using printed pants and hand-designed patterns.

The concept came to me for the collection while on recent travels.  This exciting line is bringing a fresh, new take in the denim world and it will be a strong influence in the premium denim market.

M&C  What are your favorite denim trends currently?

Orly: Colors, printed denim. Varied hues in a range of the blue denim. Silhouettes vary in skinnie, boot and extreme flare.

M&C:  What do we have to look forward to for Spring 2012?

Orly: Expect to see a fresh take with this denim collection. Surf has also inspired part of the line with Nylon shorts mixed with denim.

M&C:  What is a staple denim piece that never goes out of style? What is a "classic", in your eyes?

Orly: A classic blue jean with a great wash, in a slim boot silhouette will always stay in style.
