Radical diets bad for driving

Vienna - Radical diets can significantly lower concentration levels and reaction times whilst driving, the Austrian motoring organisation (OeAMTC) warned recently. Quoting medical doctor Raimund Saam, the organisation said low blood sugar levels and lack of fluid intake caused fatigue and in some cases poor vision. The effects of appetite reducing pills should not be underestimated, causing lower reaction time, the OeAMTC said. In the initial phase after taking weight-reduction medication great care should be taken when driving a car. Saam recommends the intake of vitamin-rich foods, sufficient fluids and glucose tablets to activate the brain cells. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
