Strategy against overweight must be long term
Jun 5, 2006, 3:22 GMT
Munich - Effective weight loss can only be achieved only by people who accept that it will take a long time to shed their extra pounds.
In six to 12 months, a reduction of 5 to 10 per cent in body weight is realistic, according to the professional association of gynaecologists in Munich. The additional body weight was not put on in a short period of time, the association notes.
Only a lasting change in lifestyle can assure long-term success in weight loss, the association said. In addition to changing eating habits, exercise has to be incorporated.
A diet therapy that includes drugs should be tried only after consultation with a doctor, the association said.
