EU launches multilingual website on health information
May 10, 2006, 14:43 GMT
Brussels - The European Commission on Wednesday launched a Europe-wide internet portal which aims to provide citizens and professionals with information on health-related issues.
The website http://health.europa.eu lists a total of 47 topics with issues ranging from babies' health to bio-terrorism, and from alcohol to vaccinations.
The portal also links to information on member states' health policies, to the websites of European non-governmental as well as to international organizations.
In addition, it gives indicators and statistics on health across Europe.
The commission said the website is also designed to be a research tool for scientists, policy makers and health professionals.
Information is provided in the European Union's currently 20 official languages.
