May 1, 2006, 13:24 GMT
Neu-Isenburg, Germany Going without soft drinks can lead to weight loss in obese young adults, according to a study published in the US.
The rate at which the participants in the study gained weight was reduced over the course of the survey.
The observation was most pronounced in the heaviest participants, according to the report published in the German medical journal
Aerzte Zeitung.
The participants who continued to regularly consume soft drinks gained weight.
The study was carried out by researchers at the Children's Hospital Boston and surveyed 103 teenagers between 13 and 18 years.
Half of them did without lemonade, Coca Cola and sugared ice teas for six months.
