The Hot Holiday Gift series is Monsters and Critics' 2011 picks for the best in Made in America gifts for everyone. From beauty, food, wine and spirits, DVDs to fashion, we have found the best in each category for you to consider gifting a loved one this holiday season.
American company Uncaged Ergonomics was founded by tech professionals looking for solutions to the hazards of their business: Overheated laptops, sore necks, aching backs and dropped computers and tablets.
The WorkEz line of three separate stands was developed to manage the laptop conundrum, how to balance it in bed, on a sofa or on a desk so that the user was not hurting themselves or jeopardizing their computer from falling to the floor.
The WorkEz Light weighs less than 2 pounds, and has the smallest platform with a 2-piece leg design. It is a light portable model that fits into larger laptop bags and backpacks. It excels when used on a table and works as a lap desk (Light is the least stable on soft surfaces like a couch or bed).
The WorkEz Professional is what we tried out and loved. The stand has a larger panel than the Light, a fixed lip, and a 3-piece leg design. The 3-piece leg design makes the Professional really stable when used on a couch or in bed as a lap desk. Both the larger panel and fixed lip securely holds larger laptops.
WorkEz Executive has the largest panel, longer legs, and the widest dimensions. Longer legs allow it to extend to 2ft tall – great as a portable table to be used in front of a couch or recliner.
The also make the Executive the most stable on soft surfaces such as a bed or couch. Wider dimensions give users more space to move around. For 16” and below laptops, there is room on the panels to use an external mouse or for holding your phone, remote, or a notepad.

The Pro Work EZ is exactly what I needed to safeguard my laptop from overheating, having just eaten up the motherboard from heat on my last laptop. It holds my 17" laptop perfectly for use in bed or on the chaise as I watch TV. Setting it up for perfect balance is not difficult. The light weight, non-slip pads at edge of shelf, and cooling fans make this a superb value at $55.
Uncaged Ergonomics' World Headquarters is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
