The ability to control the heat are easy to adjust and use, do not be intimidated. You can up the heat for a more structured curl and go lower for just some all-over volume. Pro tip, when you do curl your hair, leave it alone for at least 15 minutes to set the curl, don\'t comb or brush it too soon. Photo by M&C

Helmet hair is a vestige of the last century.   Ultra stick straight hair went by way of the jegging.  Curl power continues, so keep those flat-irons stored, as spring and summer promise big, bouncy, curly wavy hair, and everything in-between.

Red is a hot shade this season thanks to Rihanna and Katy Perry rocking some outrageous variations of the color. Pump up the big hair this season. Curly hairstyles need oomph and volume; kinky hair people let your 'fro just go.  Lazy chicks, you luck out as messy waves and curls are a super hot look in Spring/Summer 2011 hair trends.

The “just rolled out of bed” look can be aided by a sea salt spray (we recommend PreGame spray, reviewed here)  and twisted up for a messy bun.   Also big are twists, braids and combos of braids and waves that are loose and flowing for the longer hair gals.  Another playful look this season are extreme side parts. Not everyone can rock this; you should really love your profile and jawline to pull this one off.

Think uncontrived, unstructured and tendril-ly loose, beguiling, almost middle-ages feminine classic looks in the styling department.

What ever your ethnicity, here are some fabulous products we tried that work for everyone but Sinéad O Connor and Meshell Ndegeocello.

The key to making it look sexy versus sad is preserving the health (shine) of your hair cuticle.  No one likes hay hair, fried ends, too thin, painfully tight curls. Or braids made so tight its making wide bald skin patches between them

Two standout key styling products, Emtage SILKtage and Joico's new Moisture Recovery Styling Creme work for everyone, what you need to do is adjust the amount based on hair type.

Caucasian fine-hair people need miniscule amounts of these protectors and enhancers, while African-American ladies can apply more liberal amounts. The thicker and coarser the hair, the more of these products you can use. Always start off using the least amount, you can add later.

Both of these recommended hair serums/stylers fit the criteria for M&C in the "good for you" ingredient department.

A hair and scalp savior, Silktage is infused with Camellia and Monoi oils and all organic botanicals. No silicone, no parabens, no chemical preservatives. These natural oils eliminate frizz and split end horror and the shine is gorgeous. Do not overuse this product. When I curl and use the hot irons on my hair, my ends always get a teeny touch of this, and it makes all the difference in the end result. Smells fantastic.

Moisture Recovery Styling Creme is not sticky and smells super fresh and clean. This lightweight creme delivers nice hold and definition without the crunchies, and is for all hair types. Caveat, the finer the hair, the less you need.
Joico's creme is a blend of marine botanicals and minerals like Sea Kelp, Brown Algae and Seawater Nutrients: Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, Zinc, Manganese and Copper which all work together to shield hair against the bad things that curling irons and blow dryers do.
