Super sports car McLaren F1 takes form
Feb 29, 2012, 3:06 GMT
London - Sketches of McLaren's new super sports car, the McLaren F1, have been revealed with indications that it will be built with lightweight materials and a V8-Bi turbo power unit with an output of 592 hp.
The hybrid car will be supported by an electric engine with an additional output of 200 hp similar to the KERS system used in Formula 1 motor racing.
McLaren has for some time been working on a new F1 sports car, aimed at rivalling the Porsche 918 Spyder, the BMW i8 and the Jaguar C-X75.
Running under the project name P12, the super sports car will probably be manufactured entirely using lightweight carbon fibre materials, bringing the weight to only 1,200 kilogrammes.
Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is expected to be less than three seconds with a top speed of 390 km/h.
