Audi to present RS4 Avant in Geneva
Feb 22, 2012, 6:08 GMT
Geneva - Audi is adding a sports version to the A4, the RS4 Avant, filling the gap in the exclusive station wagon lineup created by the RS6 which ended its career in 2010, according to German media reports.
In pictures revealed by auto-motor-sport magazine the RS4, which will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March, is 20 mm longer and 24 mm wider than the standard A4. The single frame front grille has a different pattern with a spoiler on the roof and enlarged wheel arches to fit 19- or 20-inch alloys. Options include a sport exhaust system, ceramic brakes and a sport differential fitted to the rear axle.
Beneath the bonnet the RS4 is powered by the same V8 motor fitted to the Audi RS5 with an output of 450 hp. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is 4.7 seconds. The top speed is at 280 km/h with consumption at less than eleven litres to 100 kilometres. The power-steering is designed in such a way that it adapts to the speed, supporting the driver in keeping the car on track.
Prices are expected to start at around 76,600 euros (100,874 dollars) with the first customers likely to expect delivery later this year, auto-motor-sport reports.
