BMW announces recall of 235,000 Minis
Jan 25, 2012, 3:06 GMT
Munich - BMW has announced it is recalling some 235,000 Mini cars worldwide because a water-pump failure might cause the vehicles to catch fire. The recall affects Cooper S and John Cooper Works models built between March 2006 and January 2011.
Some 89,000 vehicles are affected in the United States and some 22,000 in Germany. BMW, the parent company of Mini, said owners would be informed and the faulty part replaced.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation after receiving complaints from owners whose cars had caught fire, resulting in the total loss of their vehicles. Some of the owners said their cars caught fire when the vehicle was parked and the engine turned off.
