Jan 18, 2012, 3:06 GMT
Detroit - Dodge pulled the covers off a new compact sedan at the Detroit Motor Show, the Dart, based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and aimed at the small car segment in the United States.
Listed with an official base price of just under 16,000 dollars, the Dart has slightly bigger dimensions than the Alfa, offering more interior space and legroom at the rear. Customers have the choice of 14 interior and trim combinations.
In the interior, a seven-inch TFT display, which replaces the standard analogue gauges, is paired with an 8.4-inch touchscreen panel at the centre of the dashboard.
Three engine versions are available. The 1.4-litre version has an output of 160 hp followed by the 2.0-litre inline-four and the 2.4 litre version with 184 hp. The power unit originates from the Fiat 500 Abarth also known as Tigershark.
The engines are paired either to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission with turbo.
