Detroit, United States - Swedish carmaker Volvo has revealed at the Detroit Motor Show an XC 60 Plug-in-Hybrid concept car with a combined power output of 350 hp.
The technology revealed in the concept vehicle is expected to find its way into serial production cars in coming years.
Volvo combined a two-litre, four-cylinder motor with an integrated starter generation of 34 kW between the engine and transmission. In addition, an electric engine with an output of 70 hp is fitted to the rear axle.
The combustion engine with an output of 280 hp is used exclusively to power the front wheels. An AWD switch combines the units to an intelligent four-wheel drive system.
The lithium-ion battery unit is positioned beneath the loading area. The batteries can be charged from a conventional 220 volt electric socket.
Volvo lists the average consumption in hybrid mode at 2.3 litres per 100 kilometres with a carbon dioxide emission figure of 53 grammes per kilometre. The range is listed at 960 kilometres, while the mode in zero emission electric drive is 45 kilometres.
