Alfa and Jeep said to be planning SUV
Jan 4, 2012, 3:06 GMT
Detroit - Alfa Romeo and Jeep are apparently joining forces to build a compact sports utility vehicle that would replace the Jeep Compass and be sold by the Italians under the name of Alfa Kamal, according to reports.
The petrol engine would be supplied by Alfa and the diesel power unit by Fiat with both models to be built in Italy from 2013. Jeep only announced a makeover of the Compass at the Detroit Motor Show last year.
Both Alfa Romeo and Jeep are subsidiaries of the Fiat/Chrysler concern, but it remains unclear what strategy the concern is pursuing after Fiat's takeover of Chrysler from Daimler.
