New generation Mazda 6 planned for 2012
Dec 14, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Tokyo - Mazda is planning to launch a new generation Mazda 6 late next year with a more aerodynamic body and fuel efficient Sky-Active engines that are about 20 per cent more economical than the predecessor model, according to the manufacturer.
Sketches released by the car maker reveal a sharply contoured coupe shape that is some 10 centimetres longer and broader than the previous model. The stationwagon version, which is to be released at a later date, will have more or less the same dimensions as the older model.
The sedan is expected to be some 100 kilograms lighter, with a brake-regeneration system fitted with two generators adding to a reduction in fuel consumption.
At the launch, Mazda is planning a 165 hp petrol engine and a 2.2 litre diesel version in the range of between 130 and 180 hp. Fuel consumption of the most economical model is expected to be around four litres per 100 kilometres.
The safety package is expected to include numerous features such as a Lane-Assist and a city emergency braking system.
