Toyota reported to be working on Corolla comeback
Dec 14, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Stuttgart - Toyota is mulling plans for a comeback of the Corolla after the replacement model, the Auris, failed to achieve sales expectations on the European markets, according to a report in Germany's Autobild newspaper.
The Toyota Auris was launched in a major advertising campaign in 2007 but failed to make inroads in the compact car segment dominated by the Volkswagen Golf. According to Autobild, only 11,293 Auris models were sold in Germany in the period between January to November, with Nissan at the same time selling double that number of its Qashqai model.
Quoting company sources, Autobild said Toyota was considering bringing back the Corolla name, which had been on the market since 1966.
