Nov 23, 2011, 2:06 GMT
Tokyo - BMW has announced that it will present at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show its latest generation hybrid technology in the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 with a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine linked to an electric drive system.
The package, which includes an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a high-performance lithium-ion battery pack, enables driving on electric power only in about-town traffic, according to the car maker.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 also comes with a globally unique intelligent energy management system, which works in tandem with the navigation system to prepare the car's drive functions in advance for upcoming road conditions.
The Tokyo Motor Show takes place December 3-11.
