Japanese cars the most reliable in US, report finds
Nov 2, 2011, 3:07 GMT
New York - Japanese cars are the most reliable in the United States, while Ford and Porsche dropped well down in the list, according to the annual reliability list of the Consumer Reports magazine.
The top spots in the list were all held by Japanese manufacturers, headed by the Toyota Scion and followed by Lexus, Acura, Mazda and Honda. Ford meanwhile dropped from its number 10 ranking last year to the 20th spot of the 28 brands listed.
The annual survey is based on data from 1.3 million cars built in the period 2002-2011 and leased or owned by the magazine's subscribers. Ford ranked as the top American producer last year, but was pulled down this year by three new models, with the Explorer, Fiesta and Focus all receiving below average ratings, the magazine reported.
European cars were given a mixed rating, with Porsche showing the most dramatic drop from the second-best-rated brand last year to the second-worst, mainly because the new Porsche Cayenne Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) had a poor start in the US, the magazine pointed out.
