Hyundai versus Prius with i30 hybrid
Oct 19, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Seoul - The South Korean car maker Hyundai is working on plans to build a hybrid version of the i30 compact car as a cheaper alternative to a segment currently dominated by the Toyota Prius, according to several reports.
The plug-in hybrid is expected to come to European markets in 2013 at a cheaper price than the Prius which currently sells for 26,000 euros (35,800 dollars).
Hyundai has made inroads in the cheaper price segment with models such as the i20 and i30 with a hybrid version apparently aimed at the higher income bracket. It hopes to sell at least half a million vehicles in Europe by the end of 2012.
Currently Hyundai is only offering a hybrid model on its home market and in the United States with the Sonata.
