Volvo to focus on four-cylinder engines
Oct 19, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Stockholm - The Swedish car maker Volvo is planning to phase out all five and six-cylinder models and will in future build only the more fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines, Germany's auto-motor-sport magazine reports.
First in the line with a new 250 hp four-cylinder motor is the top of the range S80 that is planned for 2015, losing none of its performance because of weight reduction and other measures.
A close indication of the new S80 is the Volvo Concept You that features a prominent hood with a cabin sloping sharply to a tapered rear. The cockpit is fitted with a wide variety of touchscreen and other modern electronic gadgets. A hybrid version of the S80 is also in the planning with an output of 310 hp.
The entry level 1.5-litre diesel with an output of 120 hp will have a carbon dioxide emission figure of only 110 grammes per kilometre, according to the report.
