Audi planning additions to Q family
Oct 12, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Stuttgart - Audi is planning several additions to the 'Q' SUV model range including a Q6 in 2012 with a second Q7 generation planned for 2014 and a two-door Q4 also in the pipeline, Germany's Autobild newspaper reports.
Based on the current Q5, the Q6 is expected to come out as a full hybrid with a start-stop system as standard.
However the Q4 will already be based on the new lightweight and modular generation of the MLB evo. The full hybrid will then be replaced in 2016 by a plug-in hybrid, combining the 2.0 TFSI motor with either a 40 or 60 kW electric motor, giving a zero emission electric range of about 50 kilometres, the newspaper reports.
The next Q7 generation will be about 350 kilos lighter with a special lightweight aluminium body but will maintain the classic permanent all-wheel drive system because many customers use the vehicle for towing, according to the report.
