Skoda version of VW Up to come out in 2012
Oct 5, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Prague - Skoda, the Czech division of the VW concern, is launching its version of the VW Up city car in early 2012.
Shortly after the launch of the VW Up at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, Skoda revealed the Skoda Citigo, which is based technically on the Up but has a more conservative exterior design. The front takes up the design language of the Skoda range with the logo positioned in the front centre of the bonnet. In contrast to the Up, the rear window is much smaller.
With the Skoda Citigo expected to sell at about 9,000 euros (12,255 dollars), 850 euros cheaper than the Up, the Czech division saved on many of the interior details found in the Up but offers small bags at the sides of the front seats and a net for holding the cargo in the rear.
The power units are in the range of between 60 and 75 hp. The economical Greentec version is listed with an average consumption of between 4.5 and 4.7 litres.
According to Skoda, an electric version is not in the planning but a natural gas (CNG) version is to be planned at a later stage.
