Overloading can be dangerous
Sep 21, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Munich - Overloading your car and filling every nook and cranny for a holiday trip or a move can be extremely dangerous, the German motoring association ADAC has warned.
The loading weight indicated by the manufacturer should be taken seriously because the behaviour of the car from the steering to road holding can change substantially, the association pointed out after carrying out several tests.
Adding a load to the roof can additionally affect the car and the roof box should only be filled with lightweight items.
Because motorists cannot, in most cases, take the entire car for a weight check, the driver should at least keep in mind the weight of the heaviest items and include the weight of the passengers in the car.
In general the ADAC pointed out most cars have an additional load capacity of between 400 and 500 kilogrammes.
