Pink Panther's car goes up for sale
Sep 14, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Manchester - The Pink Panther's original 'Panthermobile' seen in movies of the 1960s and 1970s is going on sale in an online auction running until October 14th with estimates of up to 114,000 euros (160,000 dollars).
Designed by Jay Ohrberg, who also created the cars for Knight Rider, the Back To The Future DeLorean and the 1966 Batman Batmobile, the 'Panthermobile' is being sold alongside a replica of the movie car from 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.'
The Panthermobile has only changed hands one other time since it was built in 1969. When Ohrberg sold the car at an auction in 2007 it fetched some 100,000 euros (140,000 dollars).
According to the auction company, the 'Panthermobile' could 'benefit from some sympathetic restoration.' The engine is not currently running, but it was believed to be working when the vehicle was sold in 2007.
The car is not street-legal but as the auction house pointed out it 'is the only one of its kind.'
The 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' licensed replica from the movie of the same name of 1968 is expected to sell for at least 285,000 euros (400,000 dollars).
