World's fastest convertible: Bugatti Super Sport revealed
Sep 7, 2011, 4:06 GMT
Molsheim, France - Bugatti is apparently producing a last handful of Veyrons in the Grand Sport and Super Sport roadster version before closing its factory doors in Molsheim, France for preparation of the Bagatti Galibier production.
Spy pictures of the latest Veyron show an all-white car that is powered by the same 8.0 litre W-16 power unit as in the other Veyrons but with four enlarged turbochargers and bigger inter coolers the Super Sport has boosted its power from 1001 to 1200 horsepower.
With acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds performance is on a par with modern Formula 1 racing cars. The Grand Sport uses three configuration modes that optimally exploit the force impact to provide a maximum of stability.
The standard mode is used for speeds up to 220 km/h. At higher velocities, the handling mode is engaged, pulling the vehicle closer to the road surface and deploying the rear spoiler. The top speed mode of more than 400 km/h is activated by the driver, who uses a special key to unlock the mode before starting the engine.
Some 300 units of the Veyron were sold with the coupe version limited to 150 units and the last vehicles to be delivered in 2012. The roadster version is expected to sell for in the range of about 1.65 million euros (2.38 million dollars).
