Rare classic cars find new owners at Pebble Beach auction
Aug 31, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Monterey, California - Some of the world's most sought after classic cars found new owners at the recent Pebble Beach Auction in California, including a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa which sold for 16.4 million dollars and the last surviving production Bentley, which went for 962,500 dollars.
Built in 1957, the Ferrari is especially valuable because it took part in some of the most famous endurance races of the time and is one of only two models with the rare Ferrari Classiche certification.
The Bentley is believed to be the oldest surviving production model with the chassis number 3 sold to its first customer, Noel Van Raalte, in 1921.
A supercharged pre-war 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster (RM) was auctioned for 9.7 million dollars, below pre-auction expectations of well over 10 million dollars.
