New auto box makes Range Rovers green and frugal
Jul 20, 2011, 3:06 GMT
London - Range Rover's Discovery and Rover Sport models have become greener and faster at the same time thanks to a new eight-speed automatic gearbox mated to the trusty V6 diesel units.
The new auto box made by ZF in Germany is said by the English builder to boost power efficiency and lower potentially harmful CO2 emissions.
The transmission features paddle shifters on the steering wheel for a faster change response and enhanced driver comfort.
The power output of the 3.0 litre large Twinturbo TDV6 variant remains unchanged at 211 horsepower. The uprated SDV6 version now delivers 256 hp - an increase of 11 horses over the previous unit.
The changes cut the TDV6's consumption of diesel fuel from 9.2 to 8.5 litres, which reduces CO2 emissions of 224g/km. The SDV6 variants now use on average 8.8 litres per 100 km (carbon: 230g/km).
