Jul 6, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Ruesselsheim, Germany - Opel/Vauxhall has added an eco version to the Astra range with a consumption figure listed at only 3.7 litres of diesel fuel per 100 kilometres.
The Opel Astra Ecoflex version is powered by a 130 hp 1.7-litre turbo diesel and is only available in the five-door variation.
Among the fuel-saving measures is an improved engine management system, a new turbo, start-stop technology, brake regeneration and a chassis lowered by 12 millimetres. Other aerodynamic components have been added to improve roll resistance.
Consumption in the Ecoflex model is some 17 per cent lower than in the standard Astra 1.7 CDTI with carbon dioxide emission figures down by 20 per cent to 99 grammes per kilometre.
