Exclusive Bugatti 16C Galibier given production approval
Jul 6, 2011, 3:06 GMT
London - Bugatti will go ahead with the production of the exclusive Bugatti 16C Galibier that can optionally be fitted with an electric motor to improve social acceptability, Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durheimer confirmed in an interview with the British CAR magazine.
Production of the Galibier, fitted with the 16 cylinder Veyron engine with an output of 1000 horsepower, is expected to be limited to 3,000 units with each car selling for in excess of 1 million euros (1.43 million dollars).
Durheimer told CAR that the Galibier would fulfil all the demands of 'the best car in the world' pertaining to luxury, materials and surfaces.
The Galibier was first presented to an exclusive group of customers in Los Angeles in 2009 with a flex-fuel compatible engine that can also run on ethanol.
According to Durheimer, the electric engine addition was part of the option as a growing number of cities were banning cars with a high output of carbon dioxide. The Galibier would however be able to switch to zero emission cruising as it enters an inner city area.
