Honda electric scooter makes European debut
Jun 29, 2011, 3:07 GMT
Barcelona - The Honda EV-neo electric scooter makes its European debut in the Spanish city of Barcelona this month with the delivery of 18 of the scooters to the city council as part of a one-year programme.
The Japanese manufacturer said it chose the city for the programme because motorcycles account for about 30 per cent of all vehicles in Barcelona.
'Testing the EV-neo in European conditions is an important step as we develop our EV activities,' said Yukitoshi Fujisaka, president of Montesa Honda.
Usage and monitoring of the battery-driven vehicles will take place on a daily basis as part of the programme, Honda said.
The EV-neo is fitted with a 2.8 KW engine powered by a lithium-ion battery beneath the seat. Honda lists the range as 34 kilometres at 30 km/h on level ground. It takes about 3.5 hours to charge the battery from a normal electric socket.
Lease sales of the EV-neo started in Japan in April, with Honda hoping to sell about 1,000 units in the first year at a base price of about 4,000 euros (5,750 dollars).
