Getting your car ready for the holiday journey
Jun 29, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Hamburg - With the annual holiday season coming up in the Northern Hemisphere it is time to prepare your car for a safe and trouble-free journey.
Apart from the regular service and oil change, you need to check the following before going on a longer journey:
- The tyres and the tyre pressure, especially if the car is loaded with luggage. - The cooling system hoses should be checked for any drops or leaks. - Check the fan belt for any signs of wear and tear. - All the lights must be in working order. - How is the exhaust system doing? Check the fastenings and look out for signs of rust. - Check the oil and brake fluid levels. - Clean the windscreen and check the wiper blades and windscreen wiper fluid. - Finally and most importantly, test the brakes.
During the summer you would also want your air conditioning system to be in good working order. When did you last change the filter? Check the hoses for leaks and if possible also have the system checked at your service station.
