New super compact Mini Coupe hits the road
Jun 29, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Munich - In the latest addition to the Mini brand, a new super compact two-door coupe hits the road with a sharp-stepped rear end design, distinctive low-profile roof form and high shoulder line that sets it apart from its other family members.
The 'helmet design' with wrap-around glass areas gives it a sporty look. The car sits 52 millimetres lower than the standard model and is the first Mini with an active rear spoiler to optimize air flow at higher speeds. It extends automatically at 80 km/h.
Built as a strict two-seater the coupe has extended stowage and loading capacity behind the driver and passenger seat with a high-opening tailgate for easier loading.
Fitted with the latest four-cylinder engines, customers can choose in the range from 90 kW/122 hp in the Mini Cooper Coupe to the Mini John Cooper Works Coupe with 155 kW/211 hp.
According to BMW, the chassis set-up, weight balance and body structure have been geared to give the car a go-kart feeling with electric power steering and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) as standard. Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) is optional.
The interior oval recesses in the roof liner provide extra headroom for the driver and front passenger. Sports seats are fitted as standard with a two-piece luggage compartment cover in three-dimensional design.
Among the entertainment functions are web radio, Google local search and Google Send to Car services and reception of RSS news feeds, plus in-car use of Facebook and Twitter.
