Daimler looking for a partner for super luxury Maybach brand
Jun 22, 2011, 3:06 GMT
Stuttgart - The Daimler concern is holding talks with Aston Martin as part of an active search for a partner to produce a second generation model of the super luxury Maybach, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has confirmed.
Daimler will make a decision by June 30th on the brand with a high likelihood of 'a positive decision,' Zetsche was quoted as saying by Automotive News Europe.
Sales of the Maybach have been slack with only 157 units produced last year after the company originally planned to sell at least 1,500 units annually.
The entry model Maybach 57 sells for 340,000 euros (487,000 dollars) while the top of the range Maybach 62 S has a price tag of 458,200 euros (656,000 dollars) without extras.
The high-end luxury saloons have undergone little exterior style changes with customers however being offered extended equipment and individualization options such as hand-braided seats, a 19-inch cinema screen and an overview camera for rear passengers.
