VW reveals new Golf GTI Edition

Wolfsburg, Germany - Volkswagen is celebrating the 35th birthday of the Golf GTI with a special edition packed with a 173kW/235 horsepower (hp) engine, some 25 hp more than the standard version.
It was set to be unveiled at the largest meeting of GTI fans at the Woerthersee Lake in Austria on June 1-4.
Volkswagen will also showcase a Golf24 fitted with a 324 kW/440 hp engine and all-wheel drive that will compete in this year's 24-hour race at the Nuerburgring on June 23-26.
The Golf GTI Edition 35 utilizes the engine of the all-wheel drive Golf R, its power adapted to the front-wheel drive. It is fitted with additional XDS electronic differential lock. A 6-speed DSG transmission is optional.
VW lists fuel consumption of the special edition at 8.1 l/100 km. Prices start at 30,425 euros (43,827 dollars).
