Hethel, England - The British sports car maker Lotus is celebrating its 60th birthday in style with the launch of a diamond-edition Lotus Europa.
Apart from finest quality leathers and trim, the Europa has been decorated with diamonds added by British precious stone specialist Winsor Bishop positioned in the gear knob and the front nose badge.
The diamond theme is complemented with a specially designed rev counter and speed dials that feature diamonds highlighted by hidden LED lighting. The diamonds alone are worth around 140,000 euros (200,000 dollars).
An exclusive paint finish has been applied with a high-gloss black base with tiny glass flakes giving the appearance that the car has been showered with diamonds. Tinted glass and black and silver wheels complete the monochrome scheme.
Despite all the luxury, the Lotus remains a sports car with zero to 100 km/h acceleration in under five seconds and a top speed of 235 km/h.
A diamond-edition displayed at the Lotus birthday in Hethel was however not fitted with real diamonds for 'security reasons', the company said.
